EXCURSIONS AND OUTDOORS ACTIVITIES

Many activities and excursions can be organized outside the farm. It is possible to visit the region of Mauricie, renowned for its natural riches, its lakes and hydrolic potential, but also visit the cities of Montreal and Quebec.

1. Places of interest in La Mauricie region …

•  Cité de l'énergie: A theme park, unique in Canada, which offers visitors of all ages both a fun and learning experience. Constructed on an exceptional site close to the Shawinigan waterfalls, la Cité de l'énergie is an occasion to discover the amazing industrial adventure of the city of Shawinigan during the 20th century. Shawinigan was known as the Niagara of the East and played a very important role in the process of industrialisation of Canada, with numerous innovations in the industries of hydroelectricity, aluminum, paper making and electrochemistry. La Cité has the second largest observation deck of Quebec, and organizes seasonal interactive exhibits and widely acclaimed and impressive multimedia shows.
  
  
•  Forges du Saint-Maurice: A national historic site, managed by Parks Canada, which honours the work of the blacksmiths (ironworks) at this location by taking the name of the company historically established on the site. Created in 1730, this ironwork company was active for 150 years.
  
  
•  La Mauricie National Park A park part of the national parks and reserves managed by Parks Canada, a must see by all outdoors enthusiasts. Created in 1970 to protect this part of Quebec, it offers a wide variety of activities, including swimming, hiking, trailing, kayaking and canoeing.
  
  
•  Saint-Jean-des-Piles: A charming and picturesque village where the TV series "Les Filles de Caleb" was filmed, it is one of the main entries of the National Park. At the entrance of the village, is a promenade and a belvedere which offer a remarkable view of the Saint-Maurice river.
  
  
•  Saint-Quentin island: A true oasis and haven, the park of Île Saint-Quentin has a very specific ecosystem, alike an island, which is rather rare in the East of Canada.
  
  

2. … to cities and villages

•  Montréal Montréal doit son nom au Mont-Royal que Jacques Cartier escalada en 1535. Peuplée par quelque 3,4 millions d'habitants, Montréal est la deuxième ville francophone du monde. Elle fut l'hôte d'une des plus impressionnantes expositions universelles en 1967, et des Jeux Olympiques de 1976. Ville de festivals internationaux, Montréal est une ville dynamique et moderne. La visite guidée de la ville comprend la visite du Vieux-Montréal et du Vieux-Port.
  
  
• Shopping aux centres commerciaux de Montréal : Les Ailes de la Mode, Promenade de la Cathédrale, Cours Mont-royal, ...
• Parc d'attraction La Ronde : À deux pas du centre ville de Montréal, La Ronde offre 35 manèges pour tous. D'ici l'été 2001, le parc d'attraction fera partie du complexe de parcs d'attractions américains Six Flags.
  
  
•  Québec La visite guidée de la ville comprend : la visite commentée de l'Observatoire de la capitale, la visite du Vieux-Québec, du siège du Parlement, des Plaines d'Abraham et des Chutes Montmorency.
  
  
•  Shawinigan Population : 18 943, fondée en 1901. Nom d'origine algonquine, “achewenegan” signifie “crête”. Longtemps surnommée “ville lumière”, Shawinigan est l'un des sites majeurs de l'histoire industrielle du Canada. La ville possède un ensemble remarquable de plans d'eau, avec plus de cinq chutes d'eau sur son territoire. Elle célèbrera ses cent ans en 2001.
  
  
•  Shawinigan Sud Population : 12 247, fondée en 1961. Ville résidentielle qui offre une qualité de vie exceptionnelle, Shawinigan-Sud possède sur son territoire des attraits naturels et plusieurs fermes, notamment bovines et fruitières.
