LA FERME DU DOMAINE : A BRIEF PRESENTATION

History

Acquired in 1986, la Ferme du Domaine is a farming business which has been really flourishing since 1989. Specialised in market garden production, La Ferme du Domaine is a member of the Quebec Produce Marketing Association and a member of the Union des Producteurs Agricoles du Québec. In 1998, La Ferme du Domaine added another activity to its line of business and opened its doors to farm tourism, to welcome groups of children, students and adults. In 1998, it even was awarded the Mathieu Da Costa excellence prize by the economic development corporation, a tribute to its entrepreneurial spirit aiming at encouraging economic and social progress in the black community.

Location

The farm is located in Shawinigan-Sud, a city of 12,000 inhabitants, in the heart of La Mauricie region, 150 km from Montreal and 150 km from Quebec city.

Cultivated products

•  Asparagus: season beginning of May to end of June. Production: 20,000 kilos since year 2000
•  Green and yellow beans: season beginning of July to end of September. Production: 100,000 kilos since year 2000
•  Leeks: season beginning of July to end of November. Production: 2,5 millions unit since year 2000
